A Touch of Bad Ass

(Balmain, Natalie Portman for V Magazine, & Litter SF)

I mentioned in a few posts back that I entered Erica Domesek's "P.S. - I Made This" competition, aside from my necklace entry I also submitted this DIY shoulder embellishment armor project. I drew inspiration from the ever popular growing trend of shoulder embellishments, and Balmain's armor looks. It's a touch of bad ass on my shoulder that simply makes the outfit.

This project will require various sizes and lengths of chains (also different colors if you so choose), different metal trinkets (optional), and pliers. (The bigger, longer, and heavier the chain the better. It will help it sit properly on your shoulder). This DIY project is no where near as simple as the necklace project that I submitted, but I'm telling you it can be done. As a bit of a warning you may need another person for assistance, specifically to borrow their shoulder.

I used chains from two old necklaces that I had and bought the small spear tip like trinkets from Michaels. You'll need to measure out a piece of chain to go under your armpit and over your shoulder. Open the ends of the loop on the chain and close it to the desired length by connecting it to where you've measured. Take off the excess chain and begin to measure out various size lengths of chain that you want to sit across and down your shoulder. (Again attach these by using pliers to open and close the loops). The use of another person's shoulder is great for the project because you can see how it will look, because believe me I tried to use my own shoulder to view and assemble and it was not only stressful, but also frustrating. I finished by adding the spear trinkets.

This is a project that can be done, but if you don't think you could manage to have the patience then I highly recommend looking into Litter SF's body jewelry. They have several shoulder pieces, however the pricing starts at $185.

P.S. If you do this project, I'd love to see how yours came out and also link it back to me.
